The wait begins...

Ms Henna and Mr Skylar will be expecting a litter of puppies sometime around Feb. 20th :-) This will be our first litter of longhair pups... we're excited! :-) Here's are some pics of Henna: Henna4%202-5-07.jpg Henna3%202-5-07.jpg
And here's a pic of Skylar: Skylar-SM2.jpg That's Rustin in the background.

Tinkerbell has a new family

This weekend was a weekend with many mixed emotions. I will elaborate during the next entries. Little Miss Tinkerbell finally found herself a family. Who can resist a face like that? :-) Her new mom is a stay-at-home mom with 3 kids, a husband, and a pomeranion named Max. Tinkerbell will definitely not be lacking attention or love or play time. Tinkerbell has always been very special to us as she was the smallest in the litter & had to be supplemented with a bottle. She was always the ruler of her brothers & told all the boys that she was boss. Smart girl! :-) Here's a pic of Tinkerbell in my truck. She loves car rides... loved going to the park (we even saw REAL ducks there). We will be staying in contact with her new mom. We'll miss you, Little Tink! :-) The house won't be the same without you. And yes... we do get attached... :-) Tinkerbell%202-18-07.jpg

It's a girl!... Just one pup

It's a girl!
Henna%20baby%202-17-07.jpg So, the wait has finally ended. After a few nights of me not getting any sleep because Henna was in pre-term labor. I didn't know it was pre-term... I thought it was the real thing and kept making her lay with me so I could feel her tummy. No contractions.... ok.. good...we can go back to sleep until the next bout of burrowing begins. :-) Saturday we had a wedding to do with the carriage. It was going to require Kim driving behind me as it wasn't in the best areas of town. Well, Little Miss Henna decided that her baby was far more important than a wedding... which she's right. :-) But... still have to pay the bills. :-) So, as I'm getting ready, Kim is with Henna as Henna is going through labor. I was there to see the pup being born... YEAH! And then had to leave shortly after. We assumed there was at least one more pup on the way, so Kim began to wait with Henna for the next set of contractions. They never came... there was just one puppy! :-) Henna did not have an easy birth. She stole the drama queen award from Bella. I really can't say much as I've never had a child... and after watching these girls & the horses, I remember why I don't have kids. :-) Henna did great & the little girl is GORGEOUS... just like her mom & dad! Skylar stamped his white chest on this little girl... and if we're lucky, maybe she'll have her daddy's blue eyes too. She is beautiful like her mom. She's a dapple... but as we play with color genetics in the Doxie world here... we're not sure on her main coat coloring. I guess time will tell. Is she a dark chocolate dapple? Is she a brindle dapple? Not a brindle dapple as we all don't think you can have both a brindle & a dapple. Who knows... We shall wait and see for the color to surprise us. We will also wait & see if she will be a longhair. Both parents are, so chances are pretty high, but the lovely world of science is never 100%. If it was... I certainally would be out of a job.. ha ha :-) So... I will now quit talking and show the beautiful baby.

Sebastian whinned the entire time under the door as Daisy tried to dig her way under the door. Skylar whinned for his Mommy (me) and that's the symphony of Doxie birth in our house. :-)

The color of the puppy is....

(drum roll please)....
A BRINDLE DAPPLE! After talking to a few breeders, this is the final conclusion. I had one breeder direct me to her website Click Here This shows an example of another brindle dapple. Yes, this is a very rare color combination. So rare that most people have never seen or heard of such a color in a Dachshund. We definitely thought it was not possible. So, Henna might have had only one pup, but she sure did make sure it was a spectacular pup! As of this afternoon, mom & baby have been transfered into a whelping box as baby can now inchworm her way to the other side of the room. :-) We are still on the lookout for the perfect name for our precious little girl. As much as I am sure we will be attached to her (heck, I already am), she will be available for adoption. We are still waiting to see if she will be longhair. I'll post new pics after this weekend.

New pics of the little girl!

Wow... Henna's baby girl has grown quite a bit! I call her my little Chunky Monkey :-) We still have to figure out a real name for her. She's doing very well and so is Henna. Skylar has to visit his daughter several times a day and just loves to give her kisses. It's very cute. We're still playing the waiting game to see if she will be a longhair. Wait no longer... here are new pics! Henna%20baby2%202-27-07.jpg Henna%20baby%202-27-07.jpg
